BATON ROUGE, La. – School-by-school test results for LEAP, iLEAP and GEE are now available on the Department of Education’s website at www.louisianaschools.net. The results represent the final Spring 2007 scores for the state’s approximately 1,521 schools.
Final test results are also available for the state and district levels. Preliminary results for the districts and state were released in May, but individual school results were not released at that time.
Students take the LEAP in the 4th and 8th grades, the iLEAP in 3rd, 5th 6th, 7th and 9th grades, and the GEE in the 10th and 11th grades. There are five achievement levels students can attain, Unsatisfactory, Approaching Basic, Basic, Mastery or Advanced. The category labeled “A+M+B” is comprised of students who scored Basic or above, which is the state’s proficiency level. The state’s goal is for all students to perform at the Basic or above achievement level by the year 2014.
The LEAP and GEE tests are high stakes tests for students. The GEE determines whether students are eligible to graduate from high school. LEAP is used to determine whether students advance to the 5th and 9th grades. In previous years, 4th and 8th grade students had to be Approaching Basic in English and math. In 2004 for 4th grade students and in 2006 for 8th grade students, the policy was changed so that students must score at least Basic in one of two subjects – English or math – and at least Approaching Basic in the other subject. Students who score below Basic during Spring testing are offered free summer school and an opportunity to retest.
To be eligible for graduation from high school, students taking the GEE must score at the Approaching Basic level or above in English and math, and either science or social studies.
Schools will use this year’s data to gauge their progress toward the state’s Accountability goals. Each school receives a School Performance Score every year. LEAP, iLEAP, and GEE scores comprise 90 percent of each school’s 2007 Growth School Performance Scores. The remaining 10 percent consists of attendance and dropout rates. Those results will be released in the fall.
