Materials for Teaching French and Spanish in Context: Grades 4 12
1996 and 1997 SAM (Standards, Assessments, and Materials) Institute
The Materials for Teaching French and Spanish in Context Grades 4–12 provided through the links below are the result of the collaboration of many members of the Louisiana foreign language educational community. This initiative was supported by the United States Department of Education through a Title VII Foreign Language Assistance Program grant and was directed from 1996–1998 by Margaret Keefe Singer of the Louisiana Department of Education and co-directed by Dr. Robert C. Lafayette, Chair of the Department of Curriculum and Instruction at Louisiana State University. Created and refined by Louisiana foreign language educators, these materials are essentially contextualized thematic lessons situated within the backdrop of real-life situations that students would likely encounter in French and Spanish speaking countries. These lessons draw upon best pedagogical practices and are standards-based, requiring students to perform specific tasks within a given situation. Teachers of French and Spanish can easily adapt the lessons to accommodate the learning needs of their students at various levels.
